Opened in 1999, Bucureşti Mall was the first mall in Romania. It was built on the structure of a Communist construction left unfinished – envisioned to become a  produce market, but colloquially named a ”hunger circus”.

Opened in 2005, Plaza Romania is also built on the structure of an unfinished “hunger circus” - keeping the dome-shaped architecture. It has more than 150 shops, a hypermarket and a cinema.
