"Gara de Nord" is the main train station in Bucharest and the largest in Romania. Some of the well-established routes link Bucharest with the city of Brasov situated in the Carpathian Mountains and with the city of Constanta at the seaside. (approx. 2.5 hours by train). You should look for "InterCity" train tickets, as these are the fastest trains. On peak season such as public holidays and even weekends you might not find seats in the train and you might need to buy a standing ticket.
You can buy your tickets online however the platform is not very user friendly. You can buy the tickets directly at the train station as well.
When arriving at the "Gara de Nord" train station, avoid as much as possible the taxis in this area, but if you need to use a taxi, please pay extra attention. Ask the driver details about the fare and make sure that the meter is switched on when you start the trip. Do not accept any offers from private individuals.
